While I was tilling around my black-eyed-susans the other day, I found myself spending more time swatting than spading.  As I sat back and admired my handiwork, I noticed my garden was all a buzz.  Before my eyes, a microscopic city of beneficial insects milled about.  Ladybugs crawled around on my flowering kale, while dragonflies zipped along my retaining wall, zig-zagging in and out of the cooler shadows of the tree line and in between the tiger lilies.  It's a marvel and a thrill to know that in a diverse eco-system, the beneficial insects that thrive in my garden go about their work just as happily as I do when rooting around amongst my azaleas.
